THE DIFFERENCE YOU’RE LOOKING FOR
Medical Grade Dermaplaning

WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOUR SKIN?
CUSTOMIZED FOR YOUR NEEDS
Dermaplaning is a medical method of manual exfoliation that consists of using a 10 gauge medical scalpel to gently scrape OFF the top layer of dulling dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.
Dermaplaning is a favorite in the entertainment industry, specifically among models and actresses. Why? It also eliminates that annoying peach fuzz that cakes up in makeup and can be enhanced by harsh production lighting & high-definition cameras. Dermaplaning removes all the dead skin cells & also the pesky facial hair, leaving the surface very smooth; perfect for a special occasion to be photo-ready! Dermaplaning also allows for greater penetration of skincare products, & creates a flawless canvas for makeup to glide on smoothly. In fact, cosmetic dermatologists often use dermaplaning to help prepare skin for more intrusive procedures such as laser treatments and chemical peels.
There is no down-time.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with acneic skin. If you have deep cystic acne, wait until breakouts are clear before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment with your licensed professional.
This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream and potentially harming your baby.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving your legs.
Wondering if you should try dermaplaning with us, versus microdermabrasion with an aesthetician? They are both forms of physical exfoliation, but the methods are very different. Microdermabrasion sands & harshly grinds dead skin cells on the surface, while Dermaplaning safely scrapes OFF the top layer of skin. (loved by myself) And it's less expensive with less downtime (none), and it is well suited for drier skin types & anyone who wants to get rid of peach fuzz.
Many of my clients treat every 6-8 weeks (great for those reoccurring peach fuzzzzzies), but is also well suited directly before a special occasion with the amazing bio-cellulose mask & GROWTH FACTOR for that extra GLOW.
*Many women are often concerned that shaving peach fuzz will make it grow back heavier and darker. This is an old wives’ tale. Superficial vellus hair (that’s the science-y name for clear or white soft fine facial hair) will grow back at the same rate and with the same texture as it was before the treatment.
Microneedling is a skin-rejuvenating procedure in which tiny needles create punctures in the top layer of skin with the goal of improving overall texture and appearance. Once an old-school beauty treatment, microneedling is making a comeback among both the skincare-obsessed and A-listers alike. Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Watts are reportedly fans, and social media star Emily Skye recently shared some (particularly graphic) photos on Snapchat after undergoing the procedure.
We know what you're probably thinking: poking little holes into your face in the name of beauty sounds insane. But experts agree that when done properly, microneedling is relatively risk-free and can have real benefits for your skin. The entire process takes about 15 minutes.
The result is smoother, firmer, more even-looking skin. By promoting collagen growth, microneedling may help reverse signs of aging (such as fine lines), fade acne scars, and make skin look refreshed.
I'd recommend [microneedling] to clients to help reduce pore size and improve texture.
Because the treatment works well and is long-lasting, some people use it to combat wrinkles and fine lines as they first appear. I see clients who undergo the procedure as a preemptive approach to aging. And despite what scary-looking social media photos might suggest, microneedling is actually not painful. The science has advanced to the point where clients experience little to no pain and no downtime, any redness typically disappears within a few hours.
Microdermabrasion is a procedure that exfoliates and removes the superficial layer of dry, dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion machines can buff and polish the skin using a stream of fine crystals or a diamond. Patients with fine lines, uneven pigmentation or clogged pores may benefit most from a series of microdermabrasion treatments. I also recommend it for melasma patients and individuals using retinoids such as Retin-A.
Clients with melasma, a form of pigmentation caused by a combination of hormones, ultraviolet light and inflammation, risk aggravating the pigment with almost any type of irritation. However, I find they do well with a combination of good topical care, vigilant sun protection and microdermabrasion.
Two of the major differences between in-office microdermabrasion and at-home treatments is that the devices used in a medical office generally have larger motors and more power, and they penetrate deeper into the skin to provide precise exfoliation. How often you should get a microdermabrasion facial depends on your skincare needs and finances. Most procedures pack a bigger punch and treatments are often scheduled at 1-2 month intervals. If you have any reservations as to how your skin may react to this level of exfoliation, I reassure you that microdermabrasion is not painful. It may leave the skin slightly pink for a few hours and possibly more sensitive. A calming moisturizer and sunscreen should be applied after treatment. For anyone with dermatographism, or those who get red welts at the sites of scratches, Cali adds they are likely to see hive-like lines or blotches post-microdermabrasion. An oral antihistamine can help to reduce that reaction.
I also stress that you shouldn’t expect the results of a deep chemical peel or fractionated resurfacing laser with microdermabrasion. It is an excellent procedure to help maximize the benefit of a regular topical regimen, keep skin feeling smooth, help pigment look more even and speed clearance of whiteheads.
A chemical peel is a treatment in which an acid solution is used to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin. In performing chemical peels, physicians apply alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), trichloroacetic acid (TCA), or phenol to the skin.
Typically administered as a facial peel, a chemical peel enhances and smoothes the texture of the skin. It is an effective treatment for facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation. They exfoliate the outer layers of dead skin, revealing a new skin layer with improved tone, texture, and color. In addition to full facial rejuvenation, certain types of skin peels can also be used for spot treatments and as a way to remove stretch marks or rejuvenate skin elsewhere on the body.
The chemical peel is one of the oldest cosmetic procedures in the world, and was performed in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to help people achieve smoother, more beautiful skin. Today, chemical facial peels are popular because they offer nearly immediate results and can be performed by a licensed trained professional.
In general, clients with fair skin and light hair are the best chemical peel candidates. However, patients with other skin pigmentation and hair color can achieve good results as well. Ideal candidates for the chemical peel procedure are individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their skin, have realistic expectations of their procedure.
An ideal candidate for a chemical peel is in good physical health, understands the procedure, and has realistic expectations of the outcome. You are likely to be pleased with the results of a chemical peel if your goal is to alleviate acne, smooth wrinkles, improve skin texture, eliminate age spots, or reduce the effects of sun damage. The different types of chemical peels come in varying strengths and provide different levels of treatment.
